I posted this on other forums. One of the biggest issues with marine engines out there is fuel issues. Most fuel is allowed 10% ethanol and ethanol can absorb its own weight in water. This does not affect cars so much since we use them everyday. Also boats typically have a vent exposed to the air. There are two additives that I use and should be used to prevent any damaging affects of ethanol. Please note that fuel injected engines are high tech and are sensative to changes. You might want to check with your dealer. I use 1 & 2 below in a 1996 90 HP Mercury Carb engine and it runs perfect.
1. Star Tron - enzymatic fuel treatment reduces all emissions, and prevents fuel oxidation and stabilizes fuel chemistry for at least 1 year. This formula eliminates carbon build-up in fuel delivery system and on exhaust components and increases fuel economy up to 15 percent. StarTron instantly cures fuel jelling caused by cold weather and alcohol fuels. 1 fl oz treats 16 gallons of gasoline.
2. Fuel Stabilzer (like Stabil, others work fine too) - most know what stabilizer does, but anyway - prevents fuel from deteriorating so engines start quickly and easily after storage.
I mix the two together in a jug and it works out to about 1 oz per 6 gallons of gas. You can do the math or add them seperately. It's just easier for me to have them together.
If you have a 2 stroke, you can add this too for extra protection - Marvel Mystery Oil lubricates the entire fuel system-fuel pumps, fuel injectors or carburetors and the top-portion of the cylinders. These are areas, that by design, motor oil does not reach. Using Marvel Mystery OilŪ in your fuel extends the life of these vital components by providing them with lubrication that fuel alone does not provide.
